30th september 2011 prompt challenge - school days

I'm excited about our newest challenge - scrap your school days – your own school days incorporating three of: a photo of you back in the day, or a momento from those years , perhaps: a song title, lyrics or album cover from that era, your favourite school subject, or a page from one of your texts, diaries or notebooks , a scan or your yearbook – whatever is representative of your school days. Maybe you could include a memory of those days in your blog posting. We'd prefer if you scrap your own school days - as we like to encourage our followers to scrap about themselves to leave a legacy for their family - but you can scrap your children's school days if you prefer. This month's prize is a $25 gift certificate to the Scrapping Bug!!! You have until the 31st of October to submit a layout to be eligible for the prize and be considered as one of our favourites!!!

announcing shining stars on the seventh

Angela from Toucan Scraps was kind enough to share two links in this week's monday's mentions posting of the mentions her young daughter received for her scrapping work.  Her sharing of her daughter's amazing work inspired me to think that it might be a nice idea to feature work from our young people on the 7th of every  month here.

So if you play along here, are a member here, or visit us - and your son or daughter like to scrapbook or paper craft (we might even consider other art if we don't get too many scrapping submissions), please share some photos of their work for us to post on the 7th of the month.  First names or nicknames only for the children, please, and we will be introducing them as NAME, son or daughter of MOTHER'S FIRST NAME, and MOTHER'S BLOG ADDRESS.

We are interested only in submissions that mothers send along on behalf of their children.  We are not interested in submissions directly submitted by young people for this feature.

Let's see if there is interest out there!!

technique twenty-second - September 2011

This month's technique twenty-second tutorial is given to us by design team member Donna O'Leary!!

Hello all, Anne asked me to share a fav technique that I use all the time. So tonight I am going to show you how I love to add Glossy Accents by Ranger to make your own dimensional embellishments.

You will Need.

  • A bottle of Glossy Accents
  • A sheet of pattern paper to cut images out of for your project
  • A good sharp pair of scissors.

I have used a guitar pattern paper for my project.

1) Collect all the materials that you need. A spare piece of scrap paper would also be handy.

2) Choose the images that you would like to use on your project, and cut out using your sharp scissors.

3) Place your images onto your scrap paper. Open your glossy accents, remembering not to shake the bottle as this will cause air bubbles. If your bottle is blocked use a very fine pin to unblock. If you use a thick one you will widen the tip and it will come out to quick!

4) Apply glossy accents all over your image. Then move your scrap paper with images still on, to the side where you can let it dry and not be disturbed. Glossy accents takes a while to dry. In the picture you can see that is cloudy. When it is dry it will be clear.

Once dry attach to projects.

Here's a finished project I used these guitars on.

Awesome Donna - thank you!!!!

HI ALL! knopkiniukai

I´m a Lithuanian alien currently living in a beautiful and fascinating small island in the North Atlantic Ocean, cold ICELAND.

I´m a mother of three crazy - energetic, but loveable kids, they all keep the house colorful, loud and busy....it gives me ample opportunity to scrap everyday things.

I´m a freelance dressmaker, working with local Fashion store.

Scrapbooking become important hobby for year and a half now. Cardmaking had been my favourite subject at the beginning, but soon scrapbooking captured my heart. So I do Love to participate in challenge blogs. I have really become addicted to sketch challenges off the desire to excel. It become a need to play with the paper every day.It helps me to learn and find something new. I like to experiment with different styles and materials. I do not have a defined style, but I like to look at the material and decide how to combine it together. I usually scrap what comes and goes with seasons and with my feelings.

I do like to add lots of things, small details to my layouts to give it texture, messy, artsy touches, machine sewing, stamping, scraps of paper and all kinds stuff. :) On the sites I have met many wonderful talented creative, funny and great people and that inspires me to create more.

I really enjoy photography and I am always thinking about how to achieve a good page to keep my memories. Scrapbooking allows me to develops my imagination, creativity, as well as has a therapeutic influence.
